Where
are they Now?
Those numbers speak pretty well for themselves don't they? I guess I dont need to explain! TLC
Numbers and Trends WU and Members
Lookie here! Talk about growth over time! The team has grown from about 850 members to a current total nearing 3800 members in a a year plus time. If you take a close look at the member numbers, there is a stair step pattern going on. This is due to the pimpage from the main Ars site. Whenever the team is mentioned on the front page there is usually a hefty jump in membership which then levels off until the next pimpage.
WU/Day
From 8/1/99 through 6/1/00 there was pretty modest production increases from the team. Modest? Heck I am sure that there are several thousand teams out there that wouldn't mind increasing their production five-fold! Something incredible happened near the beginning of August '00. The team in the previous months seemed to level off in the production numbers, but after August things took off. I believe it was a combination of things that happened. Right around July was when guru left the team when we passed Art Bell for the first time. There was a bog push to pass them again and then the team realized that reaching the #1 spot was a definite possibility. In the middle of this there was pretty good competition from within the team to push each other harder to increase production. Yes there were several heavy hitters that joined the team, but most of the growth came from within. In the last couple of months, things just got ridiculous. Krell, Antimoses, SAR, and www.care.org have been posting some *SICK* numbers. Can you say 25 - 30,000 Work Units per day? a 25-30 fold increase in WU production in over a year. Not Bad. I with TLC had an IPO sometime last August. I would be very rich right now! :). Note" the several wild swings in WU/Day numbers were usually due to the addition or loss of members with alot of work units. These aren't pure work unit *production* numbers, but they are a net gain/loss for the day. WU Production
Here is a different take on things. The first graph is of the teams WU production over the past couple of months. This is different than the WU/Day graph shown earlier because this graph factors out the work units transferred when people join and leave the team. It gives a sense on how many work units per day comes from within the team. The thicker lines are a 7 day average of this production. To compare between the Net WU/Day numbers and the actual team productions, the second graph shows an overlay of the two different graphs. The Net WU average is the same as the line in the WU/Day section above, but on a smaller timescale. Here the effects of people joining or leaving the team becomes more apparent with the Net line compared to the Production line.
CPU Time/WU
When I first started keeping stats, the average time to complete a work units was over 20 hours per WU. This was due to the early days of the project, and most people were using the GUI client. At the time there really weren't any type of optimizations known for running the client, so the majority of the team was probably running the GUI client with the screensaver on. Then people found out about the CLI client being faster, and also setting the screensaver to blank for getting the GUI running faster. I am sure that the average processor speed increase in the last year or so has to do with things also. Sometime around March of last year the Daily time seemed to stabilize at around 11 hr/WU. There was a big drop in times in the past several months, this is probably due to Krell, Antimoses, SAR, and Care running the clients on a heck alot of top 'o the line machines. The current average time for a work units has been cut to a swift 10 hr 15 min. I doubt if it will get any lower though. Notice the last couple days of December? The times are rising precipitously. Why so? I think it has to do with a couple of things. There were a bunch of people who joined in the past week or so with longer times/WU plus some people are switching over to the version 3.03 client which is significantly longer in processing times. We will see how things will go over the next several months....but I don't think that TLC will be able to break the 10 hour/WU barrier. WU/Member/Day
Why did I add this one? Dunno....I had the graph made, so why not put it up :) OK that is all I have for now....sometime in the next week I am going to have a Now and Then for the Team Members :)
