Welcome!
Wecome to the Team Ars Technica Lamb Chop page. This area is going to be
for general team and SETI@Home
news. Please be patient with me while i try to get everything formatted
and looking kind of decent! I will be updating the Overall Team graphs
every day....but i havent decided on whether or not to update the other
graphs every day or every couple of days.....i guess it will all depend on
how much time it takes. If there are any problems with the site,
suggestions or otherwise, feel free to email me at this link ------> -zAmboni
Problems Connecting to the SETI
servers?
.....this has been up on the SETI
homepage for the last two days:
SERVER CONNECTION PROBLEMS:
Our server have become overloaded, and until we do a hardware upgrade
(probably 9/22) connection failures will be common. Sorry for the
inconvenience.
FreeBSD passes User Friendly for
#10
.....OOPS...missed this one a couple of days ago ;-)
Added yet ANOTHER graph!
.....This graph is on the Top 100 pages. The added graph shows the Top 100
(ok 98 cuz Panders and South Park are so up there!) users in one graph. I
am really sorry for the quality of the graph. Cutting and pasting from
Excel is just not a good way to do things...especially when it is a large
graph. Take a look at the new graph here.

Team Lamb Chop takes a hit
.....Last night it seems that Mr.
Natural has left Team Lamb Chop. He
takes with him 1400+ work units. The team standings took a minor hit and
actually ended up with a net loss of work units because of this. Keep the
WUs rolling in....this is only a minor setback and we shall overcome it.
Changes in the top 20 Teams
.....SETI.Germany
leapfrogs Linux to
take over the #7 spot.
.....Mac Observer
moves a head of Quebec
to take over the #19 spot.
Note from yesterday's stats
.....C. Eric Smith
put on a big move yesterday by posting a whopping 89
work units. Definitely a good job...
Team Lamb Chop News
....After passing PowerBook for total members, Lamb Chop has
passed Team Lockergnome to move into the #4 spot for
total team members. We have had a nice stream of new members joining. To
the new members....welcome to the team!
....Added a new page for miscellaneous statistical graphs.
I have added graphs for the Top 10 member work units/day. This graph will
show the top movers within Team Lamb Chop. Mad Props go out to the top
cranker for the day guru@crashing windows!
He was followed closely by Mr. Natural,
and OrlBamf. Also added a
graph showing the Team average CPU time/WU.....this graph shows both the
overall average, and a daily average. The final graph added shows the
total work units analyzed/member. On average each Team Lamb Chop Member
has processed 62 WUs. You can find these miscellaneous
graphs here.
News from SETI@Home
September 8, 1999
The new server configuration is finally online. The "science"
part of the database (tapes, workunits, spikes, gaussians) has been
moved to the 450. Several tables were frozen while this was in progress;
that's why our statistics flatlined for a few days. Most of our software
had to be modified to use the correct database.
Over the past weekend we experienced a
combination of server crashes and university wide network problems. The
network problems were resolved on Monday. We have installed the most up
to date kernel patch to our data server. In addition, we are exploring
possible SCSI bus issues, also on the data server. Because of the
lengthy outages, we had a backlog of connection requests all day
yesterday which resulted in widespread inability to connect. At this
point however, things appear stable and all connections are succeeding.
Again i guess we must have patience with the SETI servers
:-). It may be frustrating, but it looks like when they get this
straightened out then things will be alot smoother.

Seti@Home Poland takes over the #14 spot from the Yahoo SETI Club Team.
Team Art Bell is within striking distance of the #1 spot...They may take

SETI@Home Servers on the fritz
(again)
...As if you havent already known....the
SETI servers have been having problems in the last couple of days. Here is
a snipet from the SETI@Home
tech news page.
September 6, 1999
One of the 16 disks storing WUs failed late last night; the server host
crashed and failed to reboot. We got it running again around noon, minus
the failed disk.
September 5, 1999
Various software issues made it impossible to configure our disk storage
on the 450 as RAID 5. We're running it as mirrored disks instead. There
were some glitches (e.g. 2 GB file size limit) in transferring the
science database to the 450, but this is now done. When everyone's back
from Labor Day holidays we'll bring up the new configuration for real.
