*Yawn*
Im kind of tired tonight.....not really
that much to report. Club Team Stats are still a bit screwed :P. I changed
a couple of graphs....I split the top 20 team members into two different
graphs 1-10 and 11-20. On the hockey front....a couple of nights ago our
team ran our record to 3-0 with a 4-2 win.....I brought my GAA down to a
nifty 2.33 :-). Over thge past two days there has been a bit of movement
in the top 20. SpeedRacer
has moved past both Panders and leech....and is now #3 behind Gonzo. We
have a newcomer to the top 10....and that is C.
Eric Smith who passed ojohnson. Dr.
Xing moved up a bit after having a nice
little battle with Grimas and is now #16. Both Uncomm0n
and Fluffypants passed tron. FluffyPants
passed Uncomm0n taking the #18 spot while
Uncomm0n slips to #19.
The Race is Over!
Ok....it really want a race at all :).
Gonzo takes over the #2 spot today....but with alittle help. Gonzo struck
a deal with SpeedRacer that if Gonzo p1imped the team on the Ars site,
that he would "donate" some work units to him so he could take
over #2 (for the time being :). The work units kicked in sometime late
last night and he took over the #2 spot. With SpeedRacer's work units for
the day he has taken over the #5 spot from AutoLign. He is closing in on
leech so #4 wont be too far off.
Oh well I tried!
I was informed by a couple of people on a
SETI maillist that my hypothesis that I gave yesterday didnt work with
their teams. Both of the teams that they were on contained less than 100
members. Well It looks like it followed for our team. I may have made the
wrong assumption in trying to use it for teams with less than 100
members.....or it just may apply to our team. Oh well....all i can say is
that the stats are still screwed up....but hopefully they will get things
straightened out soon.
More Server Problems
One of the SETI servers crashed last night around 3am PDT...and didnt get
back up till 9am PDT. This lead to alot of connection errors and a huge
backlog. They may have things fixed now. Also there should be a short
server outage tomorrow for about half an hour (if they are lucky). here is
what they have to say about things:
December 1, 1999
Tomorrow, between 06:30 and 07:00 PST, network traffic from Space
Sciences Lab (which houses SETI@home) will be moved to a new faster
backbone on the UC campus net. There will be a short (minutes) outage
during the cutover.
The science database server crashed at
about 3 a.m. PDT. Unfortunately, it took us until nearly 9 a.m. to get
things back up and running. We're back to normal and no data has been
lost, but we expect quite a backlog of connections for the next several
hours.
Team Stuff
FluffyPants
passed up Uncomm0n for the #19 spot. Also C.
Eric Smith passed OrlBamf and is now #11.
There were some milestones past in the past
week. They include the 500 Club: svdsinner,
arketh, Clank, norviz, soab, and
PoopOnYou. New to the 1000 Club are
outlander,
and Vomesh.
Oh yea......lookie who popped in at #100
today.....it is none other than an Ars Celebrity! I want to welcome Ator
to the top 100!
Eureka!
Looking at some of the stats really late
last night.....I think I have (sort of) figured out what is going on with
the Berkeley Servers and how they are handling the stats for teams. I had
figured out a while ago that the stats servers werent updating members
from our team which were not in the top 100. But in the past week or so
the "team total" didnt seem to be keeping up with what the top
100 members were processing either. Looking at the "split"
graph I think I found the answer why there was a discrepancy. Because the
stats servers arent constantly updating the entire team, the labels on the
"split" graph arent quite right. I changed the graph to show the
negative values on the graph which appear to come from members not in the
top 100. But the negative numbers actually show the discrepancy between
the number of work units the top 100 members post a day, and the number of
work units added to the team totals. (For
example: for today's update the top 100 posted 1553 WUs {orange bar}. The
Team Totals on the Berkeley page says that the team only posted 603 for
the day. The discrepancy here is -950 WU {green bar}).
Apparently what is
happening is that any member that joined the team after 11/12 (the day of
the last server "flush" of WUs) do not have
their work units added to the team total....regardless if they are
in the top 100 or not! I cant account totally for the discrepancy
number, but most of it comes from members who are in the top 100 who
joined the team after 11/12. This means that all of the work units
processed by SpeedRacer, Vomesh, sbdsinner, Benjamin Alarie, Zorro456,
SETI@ Vasp.pt, mehere, and surfreese have not been added to the Team
Totals on the SETI Berkeley stats pages. I believe that the rest of the
discrepancy for the day probably can be traced to a team member not in the
top 100 who has left the team.
Yea I know that this may be
hard to follow.....but at least I am trying :)
Right now it is kind of
strange......if (hypothetically) a member joins the team today and brings
along 1000 work units with him...he would show up in the top 100 page. His
1000 work units would be added to the team totals on the Berkeley servers,
BUT the work units he would process after joining would
not show up in the team totals even though he is in the top 100 (strange
eh?).
I dont want to worry out
all too much about this.....the work
units that you are processing for Team Lamb Chop will get added to the
team totals........eventually. When
will we see them added? Dunno....it will happen the next time the SETI
guys to a stats server "flush". BUT! Now I know
how they are handling the statistics alittle bit better, I can come up
with an estimate of the current work unit totals from our team. I will try
to do the same with the other teams we are battling with to show our
actual position relative to them. It may not be till later or tomorrow
since I have to leave for a hockey game in 15 min :)
Night Moves
SpeedRacer
moved up a couple of slots and now is in 9th place. Depending on how many
WUs he can put out in the next 24 hrs he may move up another couple of
spots. Dr. Xing moves
up another spot and is now #17. FluffyPants
is neck and neck with Uncomm0n, and may pass him for the #19 spot sometime
soon.
The weekly
stats were updated. SpeedRacer
took the top spot in both movement and WUs for the week.....he has moved
from off the charts to the #9 spot in less than a week. Vomesh
was second in both. He processed over 400 WUs for the week and moved up
25+ team spots for the week. Congrats to both of ya!
Berkeley Stuff
Yup....apparently they were all out of town. There were problems over the
weekend with the SETI servers, they look like they may have licked the
problem for now. Unfortunately the daily team stats pages werent quite
fixed though. Here is what they had to say about things:
November 28, 1999
There have been several periods of server connection problems this
weekend for as yet unidentified reasons. Being a holiday weekend, the
bulk of the SETI@home team was not near Berkeley and many periods went
unrecognized. We apologize for any inconvenience.
