The Race is On
It is a battle between SpeedRacer and RacerG(onzo). The race is for #2. Who can pass Panders before the other one does. As of right now Panders has 4282 WUs, Gonzo 4017 and SpeedRacer has 1527. Gonzo has been averaging about 47WU/day....and SpeedRacer has been posting something around 500WUs in the past 3 days. Who will make it there first? Gonzo says he has something up his sleeve.....we will just have to wait and see!

With those about 500WUs a day SpeedRacer has raced up to the #14 spot. Guidant hopped over Grimas and is still at #15 (he passed Grimas, but was passed himself by S.R.). Nothing else to report other than Dr. Xing is in the position to pass tron tomorrow and move into the #17 spot.

Still a Mess
The Berkeley team stats are still screwed. SpeedRacer and Vomesh post a combined 528 work units, and the Berkeley stats says that the team posted only 258. Oh well. There may be a problem, but with the Thanksgiving holiday, the SETI guys may have a couple of days off. We will have to see if things improve on Monday/Tuesday when they get back to work. Also I was having a problem uploading results today and getting a new WU (eventually i got them) but maybe this will improve at the beginning of the week also.

Go! SpeedRacer Go!
Someone who popped up on the Team Stats last night and promply raced up the top 100 was SpeedRacer. That type of WU crunching power could come from only one person....yup.....it is our old friend guru who has resurfaced! Last night at around 10pm EST, SpeedRacer appeared in the top 100 around the #95 spot. As of the update today he is currently ranked at #25 with 1058 WUs. Also new to the top 100 today is SETI @ Vasp.pt he clocked in at #97 and is slowly moving up the charts also. To make room for them in the top 100, both Other and Tom the Melaniephile dropped out of the top 100.

Crummy Data
A stats page can only be as good as the data that is provided. I am trying my best to show Team Lamb Chop's progress on a daily basis. The problem is that the data I am getting from the SETI Berkeley servers seems go get worse and worse. For example, between yesterday's and today's updates, the SETI servers say that Team Lamb Chop has only processed a total of 522 work units. That number is kind of bogus seeing that just the top 100 of our team *should* be processing something like 700-800 WUs just themselves. To further drive home this point, SpeedRacer popped up in the top 100 sometime around 10pm EST last night. That gave him something like 8-9 hours before the Berkeley Servers updated the Club Team Stats. By the time the Club Team Stats should have been updated, SpeedRacer should have posted almost 500+ WUs by himself!

Up until October 9th everything seemed to be going well with the Club Team Stats....After that date it seems that the Stats from that page do not appear to update quite correctly. The update numbers are largely based on the numbers contributed from top 100 team members. Other team member WUs dont appear to be included in the overall team total numbers. The work units from those members have been added to the team totals in a "lump sum" fashion. This has happened three times since Oct 9th (Oct 11, Oct 31, and Nov 12th). It has been almost 2 weeks since the last "flush" and I guess it is due soon.

To compound all of this, it appears not all the WUs from the top 100 members of a team are getting added to the team totals. For one of my graphs I have been getting data from this page. This page used to update the numbers for the top 100 members (including the grand total) on the fly. In the last couple of days, this page does not seem to be trustworthy either. I will give you an example of the numbers from that page between yesterday and today.

I took the team totals from yesterday and today to get a number of work units processed for the day: 479 (177343 - 176864). From that page I can sum up all the work units from the top 100 members. Subtract yesterday's sum from today's sum, and I can get the contribution from the top 100 members: 1551 (101712-100161). Hrmmmmmmmmmm........If those numbers are absolutely correct then that would mean that the rest of the team contributed -1072 work units (479-1551) in the past 24 hrs!

it is quite clear that not even the top 100 numbers are getting added correctly to the team totals. The rest of the team hasnt been added correctly for the past month or so. Right now the only numbers that seem to be correct on any of the stats pages are the individual work unit numbers for the top 100 members of each team. Keep this in mind when you are looking at the team totals for each team and try to compare the progress of Team Lamb Chop to the other teams. Another thing to keep in mind is that this is happening with every team, not just Team Lamb Chop.

Thank you for your attention, and we now return you to your regular programming.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Ya....I know it may almost be over...but I do want to wish all of those in the US a Happy Thanksgiving!

Over at HardOCP they have a pic of Rat Bastard's little one. Go take a look at it on their front page.

On this Thanksgiving I do want to thank all of you Team Lamb Chop members. Without you we wouldnt be in 4th place in the Team Standings. I am sure that the SETI@Home crew is thankful also. We contribute quite a bit of processing power that is helping them reach their goals. Also thanks go to Rat Bastard for his help in starting and his Benchmarking page. His table of results have helped team members know just how their computers are performing relative to others.....and his findings and tips have helped alot of Lamb Chop members improve their efficiency in running the SETI client.

Movement
There has been a couple of moves in the top 20 since yesterday. Guidant has moved past tron and is now up a notch at #15. Dr. Xing also moved up one...past Uncomm0n and is now #17. Vomesh is still streaking up the charts. He is currently ranking in at #30. His move is pretty big since he has gotten there in less than two weeks. Top 20 is coming up soon for him!

GO TEAM LAMB CHOP!

He Shoots....
So just what am I doing on some of those nights where i dont write anything for this page? Well it is getting colder out there....and someone has to stop those pucks from getting in the net....that is my job. I play goalie for an adult draft league in Ann Arbor. We usually have one or two games a week (sometimes more if I sub for another goalie). Last night was one of those nights. It was our second game of our season and it turned out to be our second win of the season 2-1. With only one goal given up...that lowered my GAA down to 2.5. In our first game we won 9-4. The only downside of the game was I ended up getting a nasty ass bruise right on my "extra tonnage"...my chest protector let me down bigtime. I did make the save on the shot....wasnt a tough save....I think it just got stuck in a fat roll ;-).

Back to Business
There has been a bit going on since I last wrote....so here it goes. On the Club Teams front there has been some movement again.
SETI.Germany took a hit a couple of days ago, but it looks like that the member that left their team several days ago, rejoined the team...bringing back with him 19K work units. With this readdition SETI.Germany jumped back over The Planetary Society and PowerBook and is back in the #5 Club Team spot. One thing to note though.....I dont think we should worry yet...but SETI.Germany is putting up quite a bit of work units per day. I am starting to keep note of how they are doing in a bit more detail (on my end).......and we will have to see if they are actually closing the gap on us or now. Right now I just cant tell.

MacAddict seems to have lost some work units since yesterday. A member or two must have left their team. With their loss...it is our gain....to the tune of almost 2000 WUs. This helps us close the gap on them a teensy bit.

Team Lamb Chop Stuff
A couple of days ago
leech passed up AutoLign for the team #4 spot. Congrats! Grimas has passed tron and is now #19. Guidant also moved up...passing both Dr. Xing and Uncomm0n into the #16 spot. Dr Xing did some movement also and passed Uncomm0n for #17.

Milestones:
soab and tinman both passed the 500 WU mark today. Congrats! Also D2TLM passed the 1500 WU mark today.

SETI Berkeley
Back at the SETI home offices....they have been working on some stats pages bugs over the past couple of days. The Club Teams Stats werent working for a couple of days and they appear to have stamped those bugs into oblivion.

The front page for SETI@Home has changed alittle also. Xmas gifts for the SETI@Home user. You now can buy t-shirts, mugs and caps which help show your dedication to the project. You can check out the wares here. A portion of each sale goes to help fund the SETI@Home project. Anyone wanna buy me a mug?

Updates...
I have updated the weekly stuff...Vomesh and Zorro651 are blowing up the charts this week. They would have placed in the tops of the WU/Week, but I didnt have a complete set of their data to put in the graphs. That left Gonzo and leech placing the tops in work units for the week.

There was really no big news on the Overall Top Teams this week....the only movement was IBM. They moved past both Apple and HP and moved into the #10 overall team position. If they keep up their movement, it is possible that in the next week or so that IBM may move past Team Lamb Chop for the overall #9 team position. Lets try to hold them off!

No movement in the Team Lamb Chop top 20 this update....although leech is inching closer and closer to AutoLign.

Page Changes
I will be messing around a bit today with the graphs and such. I have cleaned out my stats excel files. I basically have to split them up timewise because if i keep adding data the excel files just get way too large and makes it tough to easily update the stats. As a result of my changes, I am getting rid of the "efficiency" graph (top team CPU time/WU). Just getting rid of the data from the excel files from this almost cuts down 1MB of file size ....and that was just for one graph! I am also going to be adding a page showing a composite of Club Team standings and a couple of other graphs which has data from when I first started keeping track of the stats to today's date (11/21/99). I wont update this graph daily, but will probably update it when i clean out my excel files (maybe once a month). I have already changed the look to a couple of graphs...It is all in an effort to make my daily updates just a bit easier to handle.

Random Stats
From 8/1/99 til today (11/21/99) Team Lamb Chops has:

  • processed nearly 141,000 WUs

  • added over 650 new team members.

  • lowered its Ave. CPU time/WU from a bit over 20 hrs to 17 hrs 15 min (woohoo!)

  • increased its Ave. WU/Member from 46 to 114.

  • struck fear in the hearts of all our competitors!

So...How is Team Lamb Chop Doing?
Well that is tough to say right now. From my daily graphs it is hard to tell how we are doing compared to Team MacAddict and Team /. On the daily stats page it looks like we may be very slowly gaining on /., but not gaining at all on MacAddict. But...the main problem is in the stats right now is how the SETI@home servers update their stats pages. Over the past week the team stats are really only updating work units for the top 100 members of each team. Work units for the rest of the team do not show up on the SETI@Home stats updates due to the way their servers are configurated. Right now updating the *entire* team stats are not a high priority on their servers. Usually, they catch up on the stats processing once every 7-14 days....this ends up in a huge increase in each teams WU numbers. When that update happens Team Lamb Chop usually posts big gains on both /. and MacAddict (Lamb Chop members not in the top 100 usually are more productive than their bottom members). We ARE gaining on /. and (probably) MacAddict....but it is usually confusing from the graphs and the SETI updates. I am trying to be patient waiting for the SETI@Home guys to get things straightened out with their statistics and database upgrades....BUT I WANT THEM FIXED NOW! :-).
